Fine Art @ Swansea College of Art is pleased to be taking part in the first Freelands Foundation Studio Fellowship programme, alongside other art schools across the UK. The Freelands Foundation is a charitable foundation working to broaden access to art education and visual arts across the UK.
We are seeking applicants to join the Fellowship programme at Swansea College of Art, who wish to research and explore the language of painting, which might include new media and fresh horizons. Running from the beginning of January 2023 to the end of January 2024, the successful applicant will be provided a with a studio within the Fine Art department, access to workshop and library facilities and supported by a mentor, who will be a member of the Fine Art team. The Fellow’s time will be divided between their own studio practice and contributing to the energy and creative processes of our course through tutorials and crits with the opportunity to deliver at least one artist’s talk. They will visit two other universities taking part in the programme, spending the day as a visiting lecturer working with students and staff.
As well as their own studio space, the Fellow will receive a bursary of £22,000 for the duration of the Fellowship. They will work towards a solo exhibition, housed by their host university, and will then participate in a group exhibition, at the Freelands Foundation space in London, that will take place in the spring of 2024.
Applications are invited from graduates of any of the other five participating universities: Bath School of Art, Film and Media, Bath Spa University; Belfast School of Art, Ulster University; School of Art and Media, University of Brighton; Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University; and Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University.
Applications Close at 11.59pm, Sunday, 9 October 2022. For more information, visit the Freelands Foundation’s page here.
