Ewan Coombs / Sid Lloyd
Ewan Coombs draws from natural environments and human interaction with land and animals, interrogating biological processes, natural formations and historical events.
Coombs uses clay as a means to push his exploration of sculpture and installation. He examines how different organisms exist and interact within different biocoenoses, and investigates the creation of nests and their symbolism. He creates sculpture to be both occupied and used, exploring how we understand site specific work in relation to environmental conversations.
Coombs’ works with ceramics, poetry, light, sound and materials from industrial and natural sources. Recycling materials embodies a cyclical approach to making, with the aim of reducing waste and recasting art as not just for consumption by an audience, but also having a positive effect on the environment.
