Megan Kane
Megan Kane’s paintings and sculptures grapple with the notion of animal consumption, approaching this subject with an activist stance that aims to challenge the unnecessary suffering of sentient beings within society.
She embraces the performative element of painting, working on large-scale pieces of paper and using her whole body to create force behind the paintbrush to create loose, energetic brushstrokes. Her palette consists of fleshy tones, creating vulgar, visceral scenes that stir up feelings of repulsion.
When painting, Kane revisits scenes from animal farms, slaughterhouses and butchers, so that she can attempt to capture the treatment of animals that mass consumption demands. She encourages the viewer to draw connections between the ‘meat’ they eat and the life of an animal.
