This year’s graduating Fine Art students comprise eleven individuals who use a diverse range of approaches to visual arts practice. Over the last three years, discussions within the group have touched upon many current issues, from gender and sexual identity to Black Lives Matter, from the reappraisal of cultural artefacts to the social context and relevance of art. These debates, as well, of course, as studies of historical and contemporary artists, have in turn informed their work, resulting in an inspiring and challenging degree show. In our current time of ubiquitous digital presence, intensified by the Covid pandemic, it is fascinating to see each student’s interrogation of the function and language of materiality. They present paintings, installations, sculptures, live and recorded performances, interactive constructions, collage, photography and text.
